Match Reports for Sunday 7th February 2010
Under 11 Risborough Rangers 3 - 5 Aylesbury Town League
After victory in the previous match against Holmer Green it was extremely pleasing to see the boys achieve back-to-back League wins for the 1st time this season.
The match was always going to be a tale of two halves played on a very muddy and sloping pitch at Risborough school. With the distinct advantage of the slope in the first half we dominated the early stages but squandered many chances before Bertie Turvey eventually opened the scoring with a dipping volley from the edge of the box. This relaxed the boys who played with more confidence and composure for the rest of the half. Harry Studd soon made it 2 with a low shot, Jack Campbell tapped in the 3rd after good work from Ewan Wheeler and Bertie Turvey’s angled shot made it 4-0. Risborough managed to grab a goal back right on half time to make it 4-1 at the break.
A much tougher 2nd half was inevitable with the boys playing up the slope. Ben Roberts scored early on to give us a 5-1 lead. Thereafter much of the play was in our half and credit to the Risborough boys who didn’t let their heads drop and has most of the possession in the latter stages pulling 2 goals back before the end. Good performances all around. Special mention goes to Jamie Garner for standing in at the last minute as emergency keeper. Ewan Wheeler put in a good shift up front and George Stevens showed how valuable he is when fit in defence.
MOM – Bertie Turvey was exceptional in midfield..in fact all over the pitch.. and capped his performance with 2 great goals.
Under 12 Chalfont Athletic Saints Colts 2 – 7 Aylesbury Town League Cup 3rd Round
Difficult to draw any real conclusions today.
The opposition were two divisions below us and we felt that a win was on the cards so we did a bit of an Arsenal and gave everyone a run out and tried players in different positions.
Amaro, making his Town debut, bundled in the first goal followed by a good one from Jordan following some excellent play down the left. After fifteen minutes Kyle got his head on a Josh corner and found the corner of the net. At that point the match was all but won. Chalfont Colts kept going and got one back just before half time but there was still time for Max Smith to drive home leaving us four one to the good at the break.
We made wholesale changes throughout the match and made it five when Alessio picked his way through the defence. Chalfont grabbed a scruffy one before a long range effort from Kyle and a lob over the keeper from Alessio completed the scoring. Steven hit the bar with an excellent effort and Kingsley managed to miss from a yard out but it didn’t matter.
Their Man of the Match was the keeper who made some very brave stops and kept the score down.
Next round it will be completely different when we meet division one opposition.
Under 13 Aylesbury Town
Under 14 Aylesbury Town 1 - 5 Slough Crusaders League Cup
Town crashed out of the League Cup at the first hurdle after reserving our worst performance of the season for the best opponents we have faced all season. We were slow out of the blocks and deservedly trailed 0-3 at half-time, we got slightly better in the second half and pulled one back with a powerful Toby Vinter header after a superb delivery from Jack Neary but never threatened to mount a comeback.
Man-of-the-match today went to Ben Grasso in goal for some superb stops. Other than Ben, Harry had a very good game at centre back and was still putting himself about long after everyone else had given up the cause. Toby Vinter also had a good game as well despite carrying an injury which meant he had to start as sub.
Everyone needs to sit down and take stock after a performance like that, we were second to just about every ball and our opponents seemed to be 2 yards quicker and stronger than us all over the park. I am not going to rant on here for too long though, Slough are an exceptional side who are more than capable of ripping any team at this level to shreds if they are given the time and space to do so and on behalf of all of us I wish them the best of luck in the next round.
As for us, this does not mean the end of the season. We have now seen the level we need to get to if we are to have any hope of winning the league. We know we can compete with the best of them, but all need to take a long look at ourselves and ask 'what could I have done better today?' - I will go first, with hindsight I think I picked the wrong starting line-up which meant we started the game on the back foot. I do not want answers on a postcard from every player what they did wrong (or telling me what else I got wrong today!), I just want everyone to have a little think. Often you learn more in defeat so hopefully this dark cloud will have a silver lining come the end of the season.

Under 16 Youth Aylesbury Town Youth
Under 17 Youth Aylesbury Town Youth 14 - 1 Wendover Juniors League
Scorers:Kris Byrnes (3); Josh Bell (3); Jack Haynes (2); Darryl Bailey (2); Davio Rotulo (2); Chris Murdoch (2)
As the scoreline suggests a comfortable day for Youth. All credit to the Wendover boys though, they showed a great team spirit, never let their heads drop and played the game in good spirits. Made many changes for this game and used the opportunity to give those guys that have not had a lot of action recently some mach time. Even had my forward players Darryl Bailey and Kris Byrnes each play a half in goal as our regular goalkeeper was unavailable for selection. The first half was basically a game of the Kris and Jack show, with Kris bagging a first half hat-trick and Jack a brace. Wendover did create a couple of opportunities and scored one due to some sloppy defending. Half time 5 – 1 up, made 3 changes as felt in comfortable position. Told boys however not to be too complacent. A good second half performance, with goals from all over the pitch, but special mention to a Josh Bell 2nd half hat trick. Josh excelled and enjoyed his role in the centre of midfield compared to his normal centre back position.
Mom: a difficult one with so many scorers and god displays, but goes to Ed Norris for a faultless display at the back, moping everything up and reading the game well.
Under 17 Rangers Cookham Dean 3 – 1 Aylesbury Town League Cup 3rd Round
Town were dumped out the League Cup by Cookham Dean from the third division. Town looked lackluster from the start and Cookham were denied early on by a Nobby Hatt goal line clearance. But it was only a matter of time before Cookham broke the deadlock and took control of the game scoring three times in a 12 minute spell inside the first half hour. Town immediately changed from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2, pushing Nobby Hatt up front. 3 – 0 down at half time.
With only one sub today we couldn’t change as many personnel as I would have liked at half time. Town showed signs of improvement and when Nobby was tripped inside the box, Stewart Ramsay fired home from the spot. Town did up their game but didn’t look threatening enough going forward. Jeanmal Prosper and keeper Sean McIlroy just about held things together at the back preventing any further score and Lamar Mason-Williams worked hard up front, without getting a goal he deserved.
Such a disappointing performance as we were unrecognisable from the team who only two weeks ago pushed league leaders Bedgrove all the way in a terrific game.
MoM: Jeanmal Prosper won plenty of challenges and did well at the back.

Seniors Aylesbury Town 6 - 2 Ickford Reserves League
Never going to be an easy game against Ickford reserves who will always give a good game and make it hard for you, however after 20 minutes Raymond Undi scored another amazing lob from 30 yards, and then debut man Duaine Ryan made it 2-0 with a good finish.
Duaine Ryan added another to make it 3-0 nil and then a great move finished by the impressive Angelo Mendicino made it 4-0. We then took our foot off the pedal and allowed a silly goal to make it 4-1. James green then finished well to make it 5-1 and one other slip made it 5-2.
Late on in the game James Green broke away and scored another to make it 6-2, a game we are just please to come away with the points as Ickford can make things hard.
Man of the match Raymond Undi a great goal and great understanding of the whole games balance
